KYOM-LP is a low-power broadcast radio station licensed to Wichita, Kansas. The station currently runs under the name "KSUN". KYOM-LP received a construction permit on February 14, 2014.[1] The station airs an urban contemporary format, bringing the format back to the state of Kansas for the first time since the demise of KSJM in February 2008.
The station's studios and transmitter are located just west of Wichita State University on 17th Street. A construction permit has been submitted and approved to relocate their transmitter to a building on Wichita State's campus and increase their power, which will enable them to be heard more clearly within the Wichita city limits.[2] The station will experience co-channel interference with KWHK in Hutchinson and KSOK in Winfield.
Programming
KYOM-LP expects to be fully operational by January 2016 and is recruiting volunteer air-staff teams. In addition to an urban format, the station will also air programs catering to underserved and overlooked audiences in the Wichita market, including the Hispanic/Latino and Native American communities.
