K. Puttaswamy, is a popular Kannada poet, scholar, critic, and playwright. He is currently a Kannada professor in the Government Arts College, Bangalore. He is the author of many popular Kannada plays including Kalavu, Anabhigna Shakuntala, Chakraratna, Huliseere, and Vinura Vema. He has also translated Kuvempu’s Shudra Tapaswi into Telugu. He is credited with adapting Kuvempu’s magnum opus Malegalalli Madumagalu[1] into a 9-hour play. He has also written the screenplay for the films Kalavu[2] and Suryakaanti.[3]
Biography
KPuttaswamy’s book ‘Cinema Yaana’ has won the national award for Best Book on cinema. This is the first time a Kannada book on cinema has won the national award. ‘Cinema Yaana,’ a flashback into the 75 years of Kananda cinema, maps the journey of Sandalwood from various perspectives. It was brought out on the occasion of the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Kannada cinema. Puttaswamy said: “I am happy. It is the first time a Kannada book on cinemas has received a national award. As the book chronicles the 75 years of Kannada cinema, I feel the award is also a recognition for Kannada cinema. I am happy that a person passionate about cinema has been awarded. I feel the award belongs to all the film journalists, for I have got inspiration and insights from their writings.’’

Other activities
KYN is a founding member of the Besegerehalli Ramanna Trust, which provides scholarships and financial aid to needy students. The Trust also organizes annual rural summer camps.
Together with other lecturers of Government Science College, KYN started a midday meal scheme for students.
KYN has initiated a program titled Kuvempu Odu (Read Kuvempu). The program identifies various colleges across Karnataka and introduces students to Kuvempu’s writings and philosophy.
