Justin Kurzel (born 3 August 1974 in Gawler, South Australia) is an Australian film director and screenwriter, known best for his work in the film Snowtown (2011), for which he won the AACTA Award for Best Direction. His 2015 film Macbeth was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.[1] He is the director of the upcoming Assassin's Creed film, based on the video game franchise of the same name.
Kurzel is currently working on a film adaptation of True History of the Kelly Gang (2001), Peter Carey's Man Booker Prize-winning novel written from the viewpoint of legendary Australian bushranger and outlaw Ned Kelly.[2]
Kurzel is married to actress Essie Davis.[3] His younger brother, Jed Kurzel is an influential blues rocker and has scored most of Justin's films.
