Judith Stamper

Judith Stamper (born 1952) is an English former television presenter.

Early life

She was born in Cockermouth, Cumberland.

She attended Cockermouth Grammar School. She graduated in 1975 from St David's University College, Lampeter (which subsequently became the University of Wales, Lampeter in 1996 and then the University of Wales, Trinity Saint David in 2010).

Career

She worked in Carlisle then Liverpool. She became a researcher and then worked on BBC2's The Money Programme.

Television

In the BBC Yorkshire region she was well known as the main presenter of Look North, notably with Harry Gration. She presented Look North from 1980 to 1995.[1]

Sophie Raworth took over her place at Look North (her first main television broadcasting position, and stayed for two years). Harry Gration had left in 1994, having started in 1982.

Academic

Judith Stamper is Deputy Head of Department and Principal Teaching Fellow in Broadcast Journalism in the Institute of Communications Studies at the University of Leeds.[2]

Personal life

She was married in June 1987.[3] Her husband is an architect. They have a daughter (born 1988).
