Josh B. Stein

Josh Stein (born May 3, 1973) is an American businessman and venture capitalist. He is a partner at DFJ [1] and was featured in the Forbes Midas List in 2013, 2014 and 2015 in recognition of his accomplishments as an investor.[2] Stein has been a board member and investor in Box (company),[3] Chartbeat,[4] LendKey,[5] SugarCRM,[6] and Talkdesk[7]—and led Box’s first round of institutional investment.[8]

Education and early career

Stein earned an M.B.A from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and his B.A. from Dartmouth College.[9] Prior to joining DFJ, Stein was a co-founder, director and chief strategy officer for ViaFone, a DFJ-backed startup that created of wireless enterprise applications. Stein previously held positions in product management at Microsoft and NetObjects, and was a management consultant in the San Francisco office of The Boston Consulting Group.[10] Stein is a graduate of the Kauffman Fellows Program.[11]

DFJ

Stein joined DFJ in 2004.[12] In addition to his board seats, Stein is actively involved with the firm's investments in AngelList,[7] Doximity,[13] Redfin,[14] RethinkDB,[15] and Twilio.[16] His previous investments include Swell (acquired by Apple),[17] Eventful (acquired by CBS Local),[18] GoodGuide (acquired by UL),[19] iList (acquired by IGN/News Corp),[20] Polaris Wireless (strategic recapitalization),[21] Yammer (acquired by Microsoft),[22] and Yardbarker (acquired by Fox Sports Interactive).

Personal

He currently serves on the board of trustees of the Crystal Springs Uplands School[23] and the Stanford GSB Trust.[1]
