Johnny Ellis (born March 13, 1960) is a Democratic member of the Alaska Senate serving since 1992. He was previously a member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 1986 through 1992.
He has been a resident of Anchorage, Alaska since 1975. Senator Ellis is an Eagle Scout (Boy Scouts of America). After graduating from Bartlett High School (Anchorage, Alaska) in 1978, he attended the University of Alaska Anchorage for one year, followed by 3 years at Claremont McKenna College, where he received a B.A. (with honors) in 1982.
In 2016, Ellis spoke publicly about his health issues, including battles with prostate cancer, and multiple sclerosis. Ellis also came out as gay.[1]
