John Rowlstone Stevenson

John Rowlstone Stevenson, CBE, DSO,[1] a soldier and a parliamentary officer was born in Bondi, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 7 October 1908.[2] He was the son of John James Rowlstone, who was born in the United States, and Caroline Maude née Rowlstone, who was born in Sydney, Australia. He went to Canterbury Boys' Intermediate School, and took an office job when older. He also played hockey and drove racing cars at the Maroubra speedway. His final rank in the Australian Army where he served in both the 11th Australian Infantry Brigade and the 2/3rd Australian Infantry Battalion was as Temporary Brigadier. He died on 4 July 1971, in Fiji. He is known for accepting Nauru as Australian territory.[3]
