Personal life

Howes was born in Queens, New York and spent his very early childhood living on Bushwick Avenue in Brooklyn, he grew up in Maywood, New Jersey from 5 onward.

Career

Howes has performed as a New York City On-Air Radio Host under dozens of different pseudonyms. He was a morning host on Jukebox Radio in New York City, mid-day host at WVNJ, and now serves as program director and morning show host with WGHT Radio. WGHT is one of the last radio stations in the country that is 100% live and local.

As one of the first radio DJs to air live listener calls, he created the "Call-in Rock & Roll Radio Show" format with his close, long-time radio friend Bud Williamson. Their format has been copied by hundreds of radio stations across the United States and is now the normal programming format for most morning show formats in dozens of Major Markets. Bud and Jimmy both credit Dr. John "Al Sniffen" as their inspiration to explore taking live listener calls, on the air during a music based format show. Howes has also voiced hundreds of national commercials.

Howes has also worked at radio stations WYNY, WVNJ, WTSX, WDLC, WGNY, WJUX, WSPK, WPAT, WBNR, WALL, WKGL-FM, WKOJ, WTOC (then WNNJ), WSUS, WRRV, WTBQ, WVIP, WZAD, WSUL, WHTZ, WGHT, and Dance Party USA, a 1980s' syndicated TV show.

He is also a stand-up comedian and musician. He was one of the first mobile-DJs and disco club mixmasters of the late 1970s. Howes is currently the owner of Jimmy Howes Entertainment. He is the Program Director and the Co-Host of the WGHT morning show with Greta Latona. He also is a regular on-stage host for the Richard Nader Doo-Wop Reunion Show. His YouTube page includes dozens of award-winning celebrity live on-air interviews.

Awards and honors

Jimmy Howes was awarded a Gold Record from the RIAA for his work as a Radio DJ. He was recognized as American Morning Show Host of the Year and a member of the WGHT on-air staff that received Marconi Award honors. He has personally won awards from the Garden State Journalist Association, for Talk Radio, in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016. The WGHT Radio News Department has won New York Air Award Honors and AP News Broadcast Awards and dozens of Garden State Journalist Awards during his time as WGHT's Program Director. WGHT has also been nominated for 12 Crystal Radio Awards from the NAB during his tenure at WGHT.
