James Philip "Jim" Bankoff (December 23, 1969)[1] is an American businessman. He is the chairman and CEO of Vox Media and is also a senior adviser for Providence Equity Partners.[2][3]
Early life and education
Bankoff is the son of Marvin Bankoff and Adrienne Bankoff, and the stepson of Donna Bankoff.[1] He was raised in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey and New York City, New York.[4] Bankoff graduated from Emory University with a BA in International studies.[3] He also holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Career
Bankoff was the an executive vice president of programming and products at AOL. At AOL, he helped developed Aol.com, Mapquest, Moviefone, AOL Music, Netscape and AOL Instant Messenger. He is also known for establishing websites TMZ, Fanhouse, BloggingStocks and Engadget. He was awarded an Emmy Award for his role as Executive Producer of the Live 8 concerts online.[5]
Bankoff joined the online publishing company then named SportsBlogs as CEO in 2009.[6][7] The company was later renamed Vox Media.[6] In April 2014, Vox Media launched Vox.com, a general news and news analysis website.[7]
Personal life
On April 26, 2003, Bankoff married Diane Leslie Elson, founder of New York City rug design company Elson & Company at the Wesleyan Methodist Church on Harbour Island in the Bahamas.[1][8]
