Career
Jill Nulty (Tanmayo) is primarily known as a contemporary abstract painter and has won a number of national art prizes including the American Bicentennial Festival of Arts in 1976. She has had exhibitions in USA, India and Australia. She is a qualified art therapist and has been a registered professional member of the Australian and New Zealand Arts Therapy Association (ANZATA) for 20 years. This allows her to use art as a counselling tool. Tanmayo now focuses her time fully on her art practice.[7][8][9] In 2012 Jill Nulty writing under her pseudonym, Tanmayo, authored "The Power of Creating" which traces her artwork over 40 years. It also explains the difference between art and art therapy and gives an understanding and appreciation of abstract art.[10][11]
Painting style
Tanmayo's paintings experiment with space juxtaposing flat planes of spatial expression with interludes of vibrant colour. Her canvasses are often minimal in detail and expressionistic. She was a Finalist in the Kenilworth Art Awards 2009. A defining characteristic of her paintings over the past decade has been her interest in the natural environment.[12]
