Jerk route

A jerk route is a route run by a receiver in American football. In essence, it is a shallow crossing route with a stutter step.[1] The idea is to isolate the receiver on a linebacker. One stops as if he is receiving a pass on a curl or going to retrace his steps, then he has the option to continue across the field, or change direction at an angle.[2]
