Janine Elizabeth Beckie (born August 20, 1994) is a Canadian American soccer player. She currently plays for the Houston Dash in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the Canada women's national soccer team. She is a dual citizen of Canada and the United States.

Early life

Born in Colorado, Beckie lived in Saskatchewan until age three before moving back to Colorado where she attended Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.[1][2][3] At Valor Christian, she played for the varsity team for four years and was named 2012 Gatorade Colorado Player of the Year.[4] [5]

Beckie attended Texas Tech University where she played for the Red Raiders from 2012 to 2015 and became the all-time leading scorer for the women's team with 57 career goals.[6] In December 2015, Beckie was named Player of the Year by Dallas Soccer News.[7]

Playing career

In 2013, Beckie signed with the Seattle Sounders Women in the USL W-League.[8]

Beckie was selected eighth overall in the 2016 NWSL College Draft by the Houston Dash.[9] On February 8, 2016, it was announced that Beckie would be allocated to the team as part of the NWSL Player Allocation[10] On April 16, 2016, Beckie scored in her professional debut against the Chicago Red Stars [11]

International

Beckie has represented Canada on the under-20 and senior national teams. In August 2014, she scored the game-winning goal against North Korea to advance the under-20 team to the knockout stage of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.[3] Beckie also scored three goals in the Rio 2016 Olympics - helping the national team to defend their bronze medal effort in the 2012 London Olympics.
