James Hambro (a.k.a. Jamie Hambro[1]) (born 1949) is a British heir, banker, businessman and philanthropist.

Early life

James Hambro was born on 22 March 1949.[2] His father, Jocelyn Hambro, served as the Chairman of Hambros Bank from 1965 to 1972.[3] His mother was Ann Silvia Muir.[3] His paternal great-grandfather, Carl Joachim Hambro, was a Danish immigrants to England who founded the Hambros Bank.[3]

He was educated at Eton College.[2] He graduated from the Harvard Business School.[2]

Career

Hambro served as the Executive Director of the family business, Hambros Bank, from 1972 to 1985.[2] He co-founded J.O. Hambro Capital Management, a mergers and acquisitions financial firm, with his father and two brothers in 1986.[1][2] He founded James Hambro & Partners in 2010,[4] and serves as its Chairman.[1]

Hambro has served on the Board of Directors of Primary Health Properties since 1996.[2] He has been the Chairman of Hansteen Holdings since 2005.[2]

Philanthropy

Hambro is the Chair of The Henry Smith Charity.[5]

Personal life

He married Diana Cherry in 1981.[3] They have three daughters: Rachel, Daisy and Lucy.[3] They reside in Kimberley, Norfolk.[3] He is a member of White's and the Royal West Norfolk Golf Club.[2]
