Jainendra Jain (4 October 1939 – 23 December 2007) was a Bollywood film writer, director and film producer based in Mumbai, India.He is best known for writing Chakravyuha (1978 film) which was inspired from The Thirty-Nine Steps starring Rajesh Khanna.

Career

Jain began his career as a journalist for Times of India, where he worked for more than a decade. His writing debut was Bobby. Released in 1973, it became the second top grossing hit of the 1970s. It also represented the film début for Dimple Kapadia and the first leading role for Rishi Kapoor. He went on to collaborate frequently with directors such as Raj Kapoor,[1] Bapu, K. Vishwanath, Subhash Ghai, Satish Kaushik and Raj Kanwar.[2][3] [4][5] The 2003 film Andaaz which was the screen debuts of Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra was written by him. His other notable films were the directorial debuts of Subhash Ghai - Kalicharan and the Hindi directorial debut of K. Vishwanath with Sargam (1979), production debut of Rakesh Roshan as well as first lead roles for Jaya Prada which was Kaamchor, for Padmini Kolhapure with Prem Rog and Anil Kapoor with Woh 7 Din.

However most of the films he wrote in Hindi, were scene to scene copy of Tamil or Telugu films. Raam Tere Kitne Naam was remake of Raman Ethanai Ramanadi, Sargam (1979 film) was remake of Siri Siri Muvva, Kaamchor was remake of Subhodayam, Woh Saat Din was remake of Andha 7 Naatkal, Sanjog (1985 film) was remake of Jeevana Jyothi (1975), Prem Pratigyaa was remake of Vandi Chakram, Jaan Se Pyara was remake of Shivashankar, Judaai (1997 film) was remake of Shubhalagnam, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain was remake of Pavithra Bandham and Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai was remake of Pellichesukundam, Tere Naam was remake of Sethu. He was criticized for never being original and always following South Movies and riniging up produces to purchase remake rights and make a film.

His original scripts were very few like Kalicharan, Bhavani Junction, Satyam Shivam Sundaram (film), Henna (film) and Teree Sang. He is best known for writing Chakravyuha (1978 film) which was inspired from The Thirty-Nine Steps starring Rajesh Khanna.

Personal life

On 23 December 2007, he died due to a lung infection in Mumbai and is survived by his wife, two daughters, two brothers, and two sisters.
