Jaime Matthew Schultz (born June 20, 1991) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays' organization.
Career
Schultz attended Maple Hill High School in Castleton-on-Hudson, New York. Schultz was named to the All-New York State team for soccer, and also led the school's baseball and basketball teams to championships. For the baseball team, Schultz recorded 157 strikeouts in 71 innings pitched as a senior.[1] He enrolled at High Point University,[2] and was named to the All-Big South Conference's second team as a freshman, in 2010. He missed the 2011 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.[1]
The Tampa Bay Rays selected Schultz in the 14th round of the 2013 MLB Draft.[3][4] After he signed with the Rays, he played for the Hudson Valley Renegades of the Class A-Short Season New York–Penn League.[1] Schultz played for the Bowling Green Hot Rods of the Class A Midwest League and Charlotte Stone Crabs of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League in 2014.[5] After the 2014 season, the Rays assigned Schultz to the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League.[6] Schultz spent the 2015 season with the Montgomery Biscuits of the Class AA Southern League,[7][8] and was invited to spring training with the Rays in 2016 as a non-roster invitee.[9] He opened the 2016 season with the Durham Bulls of the Class AAA International League.[10] The Rays added him to their 40-man roster after the season.[11]
