Jai Narain Vyas University (Hindi: जय नारायण व्यास विश्वविद्यालय), also known as University of Jodhpur, is in Jodhpur city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Established in 1962 it took over the four colleges of Jodhpur run by the state government.First time in whole Rajasthan, JNVU received " A" grade ranking by NAAC in 2005 and maintained it for 5 years. Due to shortage of resources now JNVU is Accredited with "B" grade by the NAAC, this is the only residential university in the state of Rajasthan, catering mainly to the needs of students of western Rajasthan (the Marwar). Since this university is in the great Thar Desert, its R&D activities are centered on the heritage, society and challenges of the region. It is the western-most university of the country and imparts education and conducts research in border areas neighboring Pakistan.
History
The Jai Narain Vyas University (formerly known as University of Jodhpur), the second in the State of Rajastha,n was established in 1962 by the Jodhpur University Act (Act XVII), enacted by the State Legislature, for the Unitary Teaching University. Dr S Radhakrihnan, the president of India inaugurated the University of Jodhpur on 24 August 1962. In his inaugural address the president revered Prof. Radha Krishnan desired and defined the goals and objective of the university:
"That the young people, who will be educated in this university, will go forward not as prisoners of the past, but as pilgrims of the future; will develop in them a spirit of dedication, a spirit of renunciation, a spirit of whole-hearted, single-minded concentration on the advancement of the knowledge, whether in science or humanities".
The university began to function in June 1962, when it took over the four colleges of Jodhpur run by the state government.
- Jaswant College (now Faculty of Commerce)
- Shri Maharaj Kumar College (now Faculty of Law and Campus of Institute of Evening Studies and being used for undergraduate teaching of Faculty of Arts. It houses Coaching Centre for Weaker Sections).
- Mugneeram Bangur Memorial Engineering College (now Faculty of Engineering with 11 Departments)
- Kamla Nehru Girls College (the multi-faculty constituent college of the university)
The first two were converted into the Faculties of Arts, Commerce, Law, Science and Social Sciences; the other two retain their entity and have been designated as the Kamla Nehru College for Women and the MBM Engineering College.
Shah G.L. Kabra Teacher's Training College also existed as private college at the time of foundation of the university. It is now one of the affiliated colleges of the University.
On February 12, 1992 the name of the institution was changed from Jodhpur University to Jai Narain Vyas University. It is a residential university and the colleges within the municipal limits of Jodhpur are affiliated to it. It received University Grants Commission (India) recognition as university on July 14, 1962.

Campus
The Jai Narain Vyas University has five campuses spread over an area of nearly 765 acres (315.4 ha).
The main one is New Campus spread across an area of 263.31 ha (592.46 acres) with 74003 sq mt of constructed area. New Campus has a fully equipped science faculty and state-of-the-art laboratories. It houses Faculty of Arts, Education & Social Sciences, the University Press, the Gymnasium, USIC, Central Library, Maintenance Cell, facilities for games/ sports and hostels for UG & PG Boys and PG Girls.
The other four satellite campuses are Jaswant Campus (or the Old Campus) with a land area of 20.45 ha (46.04 acres) and a constructed area of 16335 sq mt; K. N. College for Women (land area 4.04 ha (9.09 acres), constructed area 15,885 sq m); M.B.M Engineering College (land area 27.60 ha (62.0 acres), constructed Area 49804 sq m); and S.M.K. Campus.
Courses
Jai Narain Vyas University provides the education and research facilities to the residents of the region and to the wards of defense and paramilitary forces and other organizations as the region is along the border of Pakistan.
Jai Naran Vyas University offers courses in Humanities, Sciences, Social Sciences, Law, Engineering, Commerce & Business Management, Information Technology and Foreign Languages. The university runs Ph.D, undergraduate, diploma, and certificate courses in almost all faculties. There are over 40 postgraduate programs, 30 undergraduate programs, 10 postgraduate diploma programs and 5 diploma and certificate courses.

Faculty of Arts
The departments of Faculty of Arts, Education & Social Sciences impart education and training in linguistic studied in English, French, Hindi, Rajasthani, and Sanskrit to enable the students to activate their linguistic potentials. Besides teaching, it fosters research on contemporary topics promoting socio-economic development. The education and training have generated manpower useful in fields including foreign affairs, intelligence services, strategic areas and economy.
Institute of Evening Studies
The Institute of Evening Studies provides for evening classes to working candidates for pursuing B.A., B.Com, etc.[2] provide education and train technical manpower.
M.B.M. Engineering College
M.B.M. Engineering College was established in August 1951 by the government of Rajasthan. This college became constituent faculty of Engineering in 1962 of the Jodhpur University, now the Jai Narain Vyas University, Jodhpur. MBM offers courses of study in engineering and educational programmes leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Engineering, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), and Post Graduate Diploma.
Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC)
The EMMRC is production and research centre for educational films for UGC-CWCR
of the university and has received national recognition for its contribution in electronic media. The center is fully funded by the University Grants Commission.[3]
Faculty of Science
The Faculty of Science and its departments are studying natural/biological resources of the Indian Desert and the Aravallies. Botany, Chemistry, Geology and Physics are DST FIST sponsored departments. The Department of Geology is actively involved in exploration and exploitation of earth resources of these regions. These include oil, mineral and ground water resources. They have generated knowledge about these regions and technology for their exploitation and use. The departments of Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics & Statistics, Physics and Zoology are providing high quality education and opportunities/infrastructure for research on material assets of Western Rajasthan. With the help of UGC and other funding agencies like CSIR, DBT, DOEN, DRDO, DST, ICAR, ICFRE and ISRO, these departments have acquired sophisticated equipment and facilities like field stations, greenhouse, micro propagation laboratory.
The Departments of Botany and Zoology are working on conservation of the threatened and endangered species of Desert and Aravalli eco-systems. They are studying the fragile eco-systems and natural resources.
The Department of Chemistry has been working on chemistry of natural products and for the development of tie and dye industry, environmental remediation, designing of devices for storage of energy and for promoting chemical and natural product based industries.
The Department of Physics and Mathematics are working in collaboration with agencies including DRDO for generating knowledge and development of scientific methods for teaching, education, and use in science-based industries and strategic areas like oil exploration and designs related to defence. The Department of Physics is working on aspects of material sciences in collaboration with DRDO and BARC.
The Faculty of Science and its departments have collaborations/MOUs with industries and organizations. Individual laboratories/teachers are helping the governmental and non-governmental organisations in development and use of technologies based on science and resources generated in the university.
Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies
The Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies is one of the main and famous faculty of this university and has produced many CAs, managers, executives, teachers and scholars for industry. It has specialised courses in Hotel Management and Tourism. They are in all corners of India. Faculty has four major department including Department of Business Administration, Department of Accounting, Department of Business Finance, And Department of Management Studies. [4] The faculty got the prestigious 'Escorts Award' for a project on 'Delegation of Authority'.
Department of Management Studies (DMS)
In 1989-90 a separate Department of Management Studies was created and the responsibility of MBA course was entrusted to it. Jodhpur MBA is one of the earliest MBA Program to be started in India and a contemporary of IIMs. It has been a pioneer department and first University in INDIA.[5] It is located in the Jaswant Campus in a sprawling building with well furnished classrooms, seminar rooms and a computer center.
The eligibility criteria for admission to the MBA program is 50% aggregate marks in Graduation. Admission is through the Common Management Aptitude Test(CMAT).[6] All AICTE approved institutions are expected to use CMAT Score for admissions into management programs and comply with the orders of Hon’ble Supreme Court dated 17.03.2011 and 26.03.2011 directing institutions to use the specified tests for the admission of academic year 2012-13 including CMAT- All India Entrance Examination of AICTE in place of State Level Examinations by the respective state government.[7] DMS, Jodhpur has a full-fledged placement cell. A good large number of companies participate in the campus interviews. The efforts put in by the Alumni Association towards campus placement is noteworthy.

- DTHM Post Graduate Diploma in Tourism and Hotel management)
- MBA (Financial Services): New Course: Two years duration
- Diploma in Insurance Management: One year PG Diploma in Insurance
- Material management and Supply Chain Management: One year post graduate Diploma in Supply Chain
It also offers Fellow Programme in Management, Ph.D. The Ph.D program at JNV University is aimed at multidisciplinary research which has attracted aspiring young researchers as well as eminent personalities from the Industry, Government and Academia.
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
MBA is the flagship program of the DMS. It is a two year full-time degree program of learning and training recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)(Source AICTE website)[10] The MBA curriculum is based on the semester system, consisting of 22 papers in core and functional areas of management education. The program equips the learner with cross-disciplinary knowledge and skill set with the mantra of working together, works wonders.

Master of Tourism Administration (MTA )
MTA is a two year full-time program aimed at providing a market ready workforce of Tourism professionals. The curriculum is divided into 18 papers out of which 8 are common to the MBA course focusing on General Management Principles and Practices. The remaining papers lay special emphasis on three important sectors of Tourism - Aviation, Travel Agency & Hotel Industry. Foreign Language Course (French) is also a part of the curriculum. Jodhpur MTA Program enjoys special rapport with the Department of Tourism, Art & Culture, Government of Rajasthan. Time and again Department of Tourism seeks assistance of MTA students for its various research projects and conducting the fairs and festivals.
