Jade Lally (born 30 March 1987) is a British athlete. She competed for England in the women's discus at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won a bronze medal.^[1]

Athletics career

She began athletics doing high jump.^[2] This began her interest in the sport and led to her joining her first club, Hercules Wimbledon AC, where she got into discus.^[3]

She did not perform particularly well as a junior.

In 2004, she competed at the English Schools' Athletics Championships, finishing sixth in the discus.^[4]

In 2005, she competed again at English Schools', this time finishing seventh.^[5]

In 2006, she competed at the Junior AAA Championships, winning with a distance of 46.60.^[6]

In 2009, she earnt her only junior British vest, when competing in the European U23 Championships in the discus throw. She came eighth in qualification, inside the top 12 that made it to the final.^[7] In the final she came third with a throw of 54.44 metres.^[8]

In 2010, she won the British Championships.^[9] She went to the Commonwealth Games that year, competing in the discus throw for England. She came sixth out of ten in a straight final.^[10]

In 2011, she won both the British Championships and the English Championships.^[11][12]

In 2012, she retained her English title.^[13] She also competed at the European Championships, being knocked out in the discus throw completion in qualifying after her second-worst performance of the year, finishing twenty-second.^[14] This was her first senior British international competition. She was overlooked for selection to go to what would have been a home Olympics despite achieving two B standard qualifying marks and finishing in the top two at the British Championships.^[15]

In 2013, she retained her English title again.^[16] She also won back her British title.^[17] She competed in the European Team Championships that year, finishing sixth.^[18]

In 2014, she competed in the European Team Championships again, this time finishing eighth.^[19] She competed at the Commonwealth Games in the discus throw, qualifying automatically in fifth before taking a bronze medal with a throw of 60.48 metres.^[20][21][22]

In 2015, she won the British and English Championships.^[23][24]

In 2016, she broke the English discus record with a throw of 64.22 metres at the Auckland Track Challenge.^[25][26] She then broke it again with a throw of 65.10 metres at the New South Wales Championships.^[27][28]

She is currently the British indoor discus throw record holder, with a mark of 58.97 metres from the World Indoor Throws in Vaxjo, Sweden.^[20] She also holds two club records in Under 23 and Senior discus at Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers.^[29]
