Jacqueline Mabey

Jacqueline Mabey is an artist activist and curator most notably recognized for her work with Art+Feminism to help equalize the gender imbalance of Wikipedia editors.^[1]

Background

Born in Willingboro Township, New Jersey,^[2] Mabey studied art history at Wilfrid Laurier University, McGill University, and The University of British Columbia.^[3]

Career

In 2014 Jacqueline Mabey founded the annual Wikipedia:Meetup/ArtAndFeminism with Siân Evans, Michael Mandiberg, and Laurel Ptak.^[4] in response to the fact that only about 10% of the editors of Wikipedia were female. The 2014 event had 600 volunteers and the 2015 event had double that number at 1300 with events hosted all over the world.^[5] Foreign Policy magazine listed Mabey as one of the 100 Leading Global Thinkers of 2014.^[6] In 2016 the Art+Feminism Wikipedia-edit-a-thon had over 2500 participants.^[7]
