J. Larry Nichols (born July 6, 1942) is the Chairman of Oklahoma City-based Devon Energy Corporation.
Biography
Nichols co-founded Devon with his father, John Nichols, in 1971 and assumed the company's chairmanship in 2000. He served as Devon's CEO from 1980 to 2010 and was President from 1976 until 2003. Additionally, Nichols is a Director of Baker Hughes, Inc. and Sonic Corporation.
A graduate of Oklahoma City's Casady School (1960), Nichols holds a B.A. in Geology from Princeton University (1964) and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School (1967). He served as a law clerk to both Associate Justice Tom Clark and Chief Justice Earl Warren of the United States Supreme Court.
