Islamic Movement of Tajikistan

The Islamic Movement of Tajikistan is the branch of the Islamic Movement of Central Asia, a militant Islamist organization, that operates in Tajikistan. The IMCA, and by extension the IMT, is affiliated with Al Qaeda.

Intelligence analysts in the United States Guantanamo Bay detainment camp say it is linked to terrorism.^[1]

The leader of the Islamic Movement of Tajikistan, Tohir Yo‘ldosh, also leads Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.

The Sapra India Foundation says the peace agreement that ended the civil war in Tajikistan "facilitated the integration of around 5,000 personnel of the Islamic Movement of Tajikistan into the Tajik forces."^[2]

Specific U.S. government allegations

Sahkhrukh Hamiduva, a teenager held in extrajudicial detention in Guantanamo, is detained based in part on an alleged association with the Islamic Movement of Tajikistan. Among the allegations he faced during his Combatant Status Review Tribunal were:^[1]

• The detainee spent one and a half years in an Islamic Movement of Tajikistan camp near Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
• The leader of the Islamic Movement of Tajikistan is also the leader of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.
• The Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan is a designated foreign terrorist organization.
