Isabella Shinikova (Bulgarian: Изабелла Шиникова) (born 25 October 1991) is a professional Bulgarian tennis player.
On October 3, 2016, she reached her highest WTA singles ranking of 135 whilst her best doubles ranking was 242 on 23 July 2012.[1]
She has also played for the Bulgarian Fed Cup team, with a current 6–3 record.[2]
Early life and Junior career
Shinikova was born in 1991 in Sofia. Shinikova started playing tennis at the age 7. She played on the ITF junior circuit in 2006 and won 2 singles and 1 doubles titles. [3]
Professional career
In 2009 Shinikova made her pro debut at an ITF $25000 event. Since then Shinikova is playing on the ITF pro circuit and in 2015 she topped the 2015 leaderboard winning 8 titles thru the year. [4]
2016
In April 2016 Shinikova made her debut at main draw of WTA tournament at Katowice Open, losing to Alizé Cornet 2-6, 7-6(7-5), 3-6 in the first round. Then she failed to qualify for the main draws of Stuttgart Open, Ricoh Open and Aegon Classic Birmingham. In July, Shinikova qualified for the main draw at the BRD Bucharest Open losing to Simona Halep in the second round. Shinikova made her debut at US Open qualifying draw, seeded 31st, losing to Laura Robson in the second round.
