Is Sex Necessary? Or, Why You Feel the Way You Do is a collection of prose written by E. B. White (the author of children's books Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little, as well as co-author of The Elements of Style), in conjunction with James Thurber (known for such short stories as The Secret Life of Walter Mitty).[1]

The book spoofs the everyday reality of marriage, love and romance. The 75th anniversary edition published in 2004 includes a foreword by John Updike. The book was originally published in 1929.
