Applus+ IDIADA is a multinational company providing design, engineering, testing and homologation services to the automotive industry. It has over 1800 employees in 23 countries.

History

The company was first established in 1971 as IDIADA or Institut d'Investigació Aplicada de l'Automòbil (Institute for Applied Automotive Research) at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. In 1990, IDIADA was separated from the university and established as an independent company owned by the Government of Catalonia. It was privatised in 1999 as a company owned 80% by Spanish company Applus+ and 20% by the Government of Catalonia.[2]

Products and services

Applus+ IDIADA has a proving ground in Spain.[3] The company provides engineering services for active and passive safety, powertrains, vehicle electricals and electronics, NVH, vehicle air conditioning, durability and reliability. It also provides homologation and certification services worldwide for a wide variety of vehicles including motorcycles, trucks and coaches and components including helmets and visors.[4]

At the 2012 FISITA Congress in Beijing, IDIADA presented the iShare, a concept electric quadricycle designed specifically for carsharing. [5][6]

In 2013, IDIADA launched an electric sportscar called the Volar-e, developed in cooperation with the Croatian company Rimac Automobili.[7]
