Idera Software

Idera, Inc. is an international software company that provides systems and application management software for Windows and Linux Servers.[1] It is headquartered in Houston, TX and has offices in Australia, Austria, and the U.K. Idera has focused on managing and monitoring servers and applications for smaller and mid-size companies.[2]

History

Idera was founded by Rick Pleczko as “BBS Technologies”[3] in 2000. The company produced a line of server backup software products under the name Idera, competing for business with Imceda and later Red Gate Software.[4]

BBS acquired web hosting backup provider R1Soft in late November 2007.[5] It existed as a separate division until 2012, when its Continuous Data Protection product was rolled into the Idera product line as Idera Server Backup 5.0. This restructuring was accompanied by a new “pay-as-you-go” pricing model.[6]

The company formally changed its name to Idera, Inc. in January 2012.[1] In July 2013 Idera acquired Precise Software, a company which develops products for the IT professional community.[2] The Precise product line was continued, with the existing website and brand remaining separate from Idera’s core offerings.

Idera also acquired CopperEgg, a SaaS-based application that specializes in server monitoring that same month. Idera sold its SharePoint business to Metalogix in October 2013.[7]

Idera was acquired by TA Associates in September, 2014.[8]

Idera's product "Uptime Infrastructure Monitor" received a GOOD rating from PC Magazine in 2015.[9] Later that year the product was found to be susceptible to denial of service attacks; Idera provided software patches to improve the security of the app.[10]

Products

Idera creates tools designed to support, supplement, and augment the capabilities of Microsoft SQL Server, including SQL Diagnostic Manager, SQL Doctor, and SQL Elements.[11] The company also offers a SaaS server backup product known as Server Backup Manager (formerly R1Soft CDP), which allows hosting providers and others to offer their clients Continuous Data Protection for their backups. They also offer a number of free tools for SQL Server performance,[12] backup,[13] and diagnostics[14] and for Windows PowerShell.

Recognition

Idera’s software has a number of awards within the SQL Server and IT communities. SQL Toolbox has won several Best of TechEd Awards[15][16][17] and some of their SQL Server offerings have placed in the SQL Server Pro Community Choice Awards.[18][19][20] The free tool, PowerShell Plus, has been used extensively by the Windows IT Pro Community.[21][22][23]
