IEEE Maxwell Award

IEEE/RSE Wolfson James Clerk Maxwell Award

In a joint mission in 2006 with the IEEE and Royal Society of Edinburgh, Wolfson provided initial funding for an award, taking its name from the Scottish mathematician-physicist James Clerk Maxwell (18311879). This award recognizes work with "exceptional impact on the development of electronics and electrical engineering or related fields". Recipients receive $20,000 in addition to a gold medal, a bronze replica and a certificate, and is awarded up to two individuals chosen by a committee.:[1][2][3] The award is currently funded by Cirrus Logic.

Basis for Judging: In the evaluation process, the following criteria are considered: ground-breaking contributions with exceptional impact on the profession and the betterment of society, and significant technical and other achievements as evidenced by publications, patents, significant products, and other evidence.

Nomination deadline: 1 July

Notification: Recipients are typically approved during the November IEEE Board of Directors meeting. Recipients and their nominators will be notified following the meeting. Then the nominators of unsuccessful candidates will be notified of the status of their nomination.
