Hugh Howard (historian)

Hugh Howard (born 1952) is an American historian, writer, and speaker. He has written over a dozen books about architecture. His book, Houses of Civil War America, was listed as one of Southern Living 's best illustrated books of Fall 2014.^[1]

Career

Aside from writing books, Howard has also written for numerous publications including, Smithsonian, New York Times, Washington Post, House Beautiful, Preservation, Early American Life, Traditional Homes, and others.^[2] He was also a researcher, writer, and scout for a few television specials produced by the A&E Network.^[3]

Howard was the founding editor of The Eastfield Record and Vice President of the New York Times Book Company, Inc.. He is an Attingham scholar.^[3][4] Currently he is a member on the board of directors of the Mark Twain House and Museum.^[2]

Personal life

Howard lives in upstate New York with his wife, writer Elizabeth Lawrence, and their two daughters.^[5]
