How Robinson Was Created (Russian: Как создавался Робинзон^[1], translit. Kak sozdavalsya Robinzon) is a 1961 short soviet film directed by Eldar Ryazanov. The film is part of the comedy anthology film series Absolutely Seriously (Russian: Совершенно серьезно, translit. Sovershenno seryozno).

Plot

Chief editor of "Adventure business" decides to buy the famous writer Moldavantsev novel which will be a continuation of the famous works of Daniel Defoe "The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe". Writer takes on the task with great enthusiasm, and soon the editor reads the Moldavantsev's manuscript. Despite the fact that the writer tried to create a "soviet" Robinson, the editor is very unhappy. He offers Moldavantsev to make major adjustments in his work. Union members, the secretary of the local committee, collecting contributions, and even safe - all this, according to the editor should appear, along with Robinson on a "deserted" island! The apotheosis of editorial changes is the proposal to exclude from the heroes of the novel Robinson.
