Until 2006, the university was affiliated to Gazi University. However, with the decision of the Council of Ministers and the Higher Education Institution, a new university was established under the name of Hitit University and existing educational units were affiliated to this newly founded university in 2006.
Now, Hitit University continues education within its three institutes, eight faculties, two schools and seven vocational schools. The university provides education to 6,263 short cycle students, 8,245 bachelor students, 1,214 master’s degree students and 116 PhD students through 592 academic staff and 347 administrative staff under its roof.
A Brief Portrait
Hitit University takes its name from Hittite Civilization, which has a history of thousands of years in Anatolia.
Emblem
The visual around the text in the emblem is the abstraction of the sun shining light on the universe. The main theme of the emblem is based on the idea of associating illumination and irradiation with the concept of a university. Just as the sun shines light on the universe, the mission of a university is to illuminate the community and shape the future of a country with education and training. Emphasizing the global feature of the university, the stylization of the hemispheric sun used in the emblem reflects the patterns of the sun disk which symbolizes the Hittite Civilization. The reason to use these patterns is to make a stylistic reference to the Hittite Civilization, from which the university takes its name.
The purpose of using the Hittite Sun in the form of a hemisphere is to signify the theme of rising sun. In brief, the design of the emblem is the abstracted form of the modernized Hittite Sun.
