The Hilton London Metropole is a 4-star hotel and conference centre located on the Edgware Road in central London. It is bounded by the Marylebone Flyover to the north, Praed Street to the south, and the Paddington Basin development to the west. The hotel has 1059 bedrooms.
History
The Metropole takes its name from the London Metro Hotel which occupied the site previously. The name was changed from Metro to Metropole to distinguish the hotel from London's other Metro hotels and to distance the new four-star hotel from its predecessor.
The 91-metre (299 ft) tower is one of the tallest buildings in the City of Westminster and was completed in 1972. A 52-metre (171 ft) tall conference centre was added in 2000, making it the biggest conference hotel in London, with 42 meeting rooms.[1]
In April 2014 the hotel was the venue for the 44th World Irish Dancing Championship, the first held in England.[2]
