Hier sind die Onkelz (German for This is the Onkelz) is the 11th album for German Hard rock band Böhse Onkelz. It was released in 1995 on Virgin Records and was the band's first release on a major label. The Onkelz also acted as the producer for the record. The recording took place at Tonstudio Ruessmann, Hennef, Germany.
Making of Just like the Bellaphon contract, the new contract with the Munich Virgin label (a subsidiary of EMI) was a contract for 3 studio albums with a live option for 4 years, going into effect in the spring of 1995. Virgin, a major label which enjoyed a very good reputation in the music business, had thoroughly checked out the Böhse Onkelz and came to the conclusion that the Böhse Onkelz were one of the best German rock bands and that all the accusations thrown at the band were unfounded. Udo Lange, the managing director at Virgin who made this courageous move, frequently had to defend himself. The reviews of their following releases and their totally sold-out concerts were proof that he had made a good decision to sign on the Onkelz. The album “Hier sind die Onkelz” (Here are the Onkelz) came out on the market in the autumn of 1995 and within a few days marched straight to number 4 on the German Top 100 Media Control Longplay Charts. Along with the album, a single was released containing two bonus tracks not found on the album. The single “Finde die Wahrheit” (Find the truth), plus the bonus tracks “Benutz mich” (Use me) and “Weiss” (White). In addition, “Hier sind die Onkelz” was available in a limited edition as a picture disc. The first 100 copies of this picture disc contained a typographical error. “Onkelz” was inadvertently written as “Onklez”, making this record a rarity within the fan community.
Background The Record was the first work of the band, after singer Kevin Russell had given up heroin. His vocal performance was better than on previous albums. The record achieved favourable reviews from most music magazines, such as the German Metal Hammer and Rock Hard.
