Lieutenant General Sir Henry Bayly GCH (died 20 April 1846) was a British Army officer who became Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey. He was the second son of Nicholas Bayly.

Military career

Bayly was promoted from the half-pay of the 85th Regiment to an ensigncy in the Coldstream Guards on 30 October 1790.[1] He was wounded at the Battle of Lincelles on 17 August 1793,[2] and was promoted to Lieutenant in the Guards on 31 August 1793[3] and purchased a Captaincy in the regiment on 10 September 1799.[4] During this period, he fought with the Guards during the invasion of Holland.[2]

Bayly was appointed ADC to the Prince Regent on 9 February 1811,[5] and was breveted major general on 1 January 1812. [6] He was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey in 1816.[7] He retired from that post in 1821 and was promoted to Lieutenant General in 1825.[8] He was then appointed GCH in 1834[9] and died in 1846.[10]
