In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the haunt is a type of undead.
Publication history
The haunt first appeared the adventure Secret of the Slavers' Stockade (1981).[1] The haunt also appeared in the first edition Monster Manual II (1983).[2]
The haunt appeared in Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition in Monstrous Compendium Volume Two (1989),[3] and is reprinted in the Monstrous Manual (1993).[4]
Description
A haunt is the restless spirit of someone who died while leaving a vital task unfinished. It inhabits a site nearby where it died, and its sole purpose is to possess a living body and use it to complete its task to gain a final release.
