Habermann's Mill and Villa
Habermannův mlýn (literally Habermann's mill) and Habermannova vila (literally Habermann's villa) are a small hamlet administered by Bludov municipality. The place is also called Bludovský mlýn (literally Bludov mill).
Geography
Just two objects are situated in area.[1] First one is a villa and second one is a mill. The place is located next to Morava River. Transregional road and railroad from Šumperk to Jeseník are in the immediate vicinity.[2]
History
The area was owned by Sudeten German Habermann family. The art nouveau villa was built in 1920 as Hubert Habermann's residence.[3] In early 20th century, the mill was used for sawing and flour producing. Also small manufactory producing wooden boxes was established in the mill.
The mill as well as the villa was confiscated by law enforcement in 1945. Habermann was arrested and murdered by local barber.[4]
The villa was rebuilt to a public housing. A turbine has been installed in the mill. Mill warehouses were used as a garage of collective farm.
In 90’s, villa was rebuilt as a 4-star hotel and a restaurant. Part of the mill was rebuilt as subsidized housing.
Economy
Owner of the villa provides accommodation and restaurant services. He also breeds donkeys.[5]
Two Francis turbines are installed in former mill. Turbines outputs are 41,44 kW and 25,90 km.
Two overshot water wheels are installed in former sawmill. Its output is 8,8 kW and 6,29 kW.[6] A water source is Morava River.[7]
Transport
A bus stop named “Habermannova vila” is situated in the hamlet.[8]
Busy I/44 Road passes between the villa and the mill.
Art
The place is reflected in Josef Urban’s Habermannův mlýn book. A real story of Hubert Habermann’s murder was a free inspiration. The book made controversies because blames family of Pospíšil which still live in Bludov.
