'Gyrodata, Incorporated' is a privately owned company, headquartered in Houston, Texas, with principal offices in Aberdeen, Scotland, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Gyrodata delivers a wide range of services including directional drilling, gyro surveying, and wellbore logging.
Gyrodata was formed in 1980 with funding from several major oil companies, such as Shell. By 1982, using the same sensors as those used in aerospace guidance systems, Gyrodata developed a means to increase survey accuracy tenfold.
Gyrodata's precision gyro survey services have had a major impact on drilling and production operations. High accuracy surveys assure precise wellbore targeting and reservoir delineation, and they prevent costly problems such as missed objectives and wellbore collisions in multiwell structures.
The company had to lay off over 1000 employees in mid 2015. With offices in several countries, with system manufacturing and testing facilities in Houston, Texas, Aberdeen, Scotland, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Services
Gyrodata provides directional wellbore surveying tools, such as the Gyro-Guide GWD (Gyro-While-Drilling)[1] suite of tools, which can be seen as an MWD (Measurement-While-Drilling) tool with a gyroscope instead of a magnetic sensor and a vastly increased surveying resolution. The company also designs, manufactures and provides a Rotary Steerable System (the Well-Guide RSS), Mud Motors, EM (Electromagnetic) and MP (Mud Pulse) MWD].
