Funke Bucknor-Obruthe (born June 27, 1976)[1] is a Nigerian entrepreneur and trained lawyer. She is the founder and CEO of Zapphaire Events and is regarded as one of Nigeria's pioneering event planners.[2][3]

Early life and education

She was born to Mr. Segun and Mrs. Shola Bucknor in Lagos State, Southwestern Nigeria.[4] She began her basic and secondary school education at Fountain Nursery and Primary School, Lagos and Nigeria Navy Secondary School, Lagos respectively before she proceeded to study Law in the University of Lagos.[5] In 2000, she was called to bar after attending the Nigerian Law School in Abuja.[6]

Career

Upon completing her programme at the Nigerian Law School and practicing law briefly, Bucknor-Obruthe got employed at Tie Communications, an advertisement agency where she worked for a short period. In 2003, her love for event planning since her days in the university made her start Zapphaire Events, an independent event planning entreprise.[6] She has since went on to plan and organize several high profile events within and outside Nigeria and has won several awards and recognitions including being featured in CNN's Inside Africa for planning a Nigerian royal wedding.[6][7]

Recognitions

In 2014, Nigerian online magazine YNaija listed Bucknor-Obruthe in it's "10 Most Powerful Under-40s in Business".[8] In 2016, she was enlisted in the BBC's 100 Women series.[9]

Personal life

She is married to Onome Obruthe and is the elder sister of Nigerian media personality, Tosyn Bucknor.[10][11]
