Frederick Crowley

Frederick (Fred) Hugh Crowley (1880 – 5 May 1945) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician.[1] A lecturer and farmer, he was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD) for the Kerry constituency at the September 1927 general election.[1] He was re-elected at the next seven general elections, and died in 1945 while still in office.[2] From the 1937 general election, he was elected for the Kerry South constituency.[2]

After his death, the by-election in Kerry South on 4 December 1945 was won for Fianna Fáil by his widow, Honor Crowley. It was the first case anywhere in Ireland of a woman succeeding her husband at a by-election. Honor Crowley, a daughter of the MP, John Pius Boland, remained a TD until her death in 1966.[3]
