Flagstaff High School (FHS) is a secondary school in Flagstaff, Arizona. Flagstaff High School has been opened to the public since 1923. FHS is a four-year public high school of approximately 1,500 students. The students are primarily of five ethnic groups: White, Native American, Hispanic, Asian, and African-American. Approximately 50 percent of the students are minorities; 147 of them are Native American students who live in a BIA dormitory in Flagstaff these students from various tribes attend Flagstaff High and live at the Bureau of Indian Affairs KinLani Dormitory.[2] The student body represents a broad socio-economic range from low income to upper middle class. Each year approximately 50 percent of the graduates enroll in four-year colleges and universities and 25 percent in two-year institutions.
Notable alumni
- Bruce Babbitt, 16th Governor of Arizona, US Secretary of the Interior during the administration of Bill Clinton. Ran as a Democrat for President of the United States in 1988, but conceded after the New Hampshire Primary and Iowa Caucus.
- George Grantham, former MLB player (Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, New York Giants.
- James Dugan, Class of 1964. Named #9 on the Arizona Republic's list of the 100 greatest athletes in Arizona history. Is a charter member of AZCentral's High School Hall of Fame, and in 2012 he was inducted to the Flagstaff Sports Foundation Hall of Fame.
- Yaotzin Meza, Arizona State Wrestling All-American;[3] professional Mixed Martial Artist, currently for the UFC.[4]
- Caroline Brawn, Peer Buddy from Flagstaff High School, graduated in the class of 2015.
