The Fitzroy Channel forms the communication between the Otway Sound and the Skyring Sound by a winding course to the North West for 11 miles. Its south-eastern entrance is at 52°47′0″S 71°22′0″W / 52.78333°S 71.36667°W / -52.78333; -71.36667Coordinates: 52°47′0″S 71°22′0″W / 52.78333°S 71.36667°W / -52.78333; -71.36667. The channel is of easy navegation, but a strong tide runs, even during the neaps, at the rate of 5 or 6 kn.[1]
