FilesWire was [1]a Web-based peer-to-peer file sharing (P2P) client [2] for the Java Platform, which uses a combination of the G3 network and the Gnutella network to locate files as well as share files. FilesWire is closed source but can be used directly from the FilesWire website[3] without having to pay a fee or register any user related credentials.
Features
FilesWire is the first notable Web-based P2P file-sharing client.[4] Users are not required to download or install the FilesWire client; instead users start the FilesWire client directly in their browsers and can begin sharing content almost instantly. The most recent release of FilesWire is compatible with all modern java-enabled browsers and written in the Java programming language; FilesWire is able to run on any computer with a Java Virtual Machine installed.
Other features include:
- Support for multi-threaded downloads. (download up to 20 resources at the same time)
- Full Download Manager (view and manage current downloads)
- Integrated Media Player (listen to your downloads direct from the fileswire application)
- Download Preview (preview audio downloads before they are complete)
- Cross Browser Support (i.e., Firefox and Opera are all supported)
Limitations
- FilesWire does not currently provide multiple source downloads for a single resource. This means if a download is interrupted it most likely will not resume.
- There also appear to be very few movie resources on the network.
