Fair Saint Louis

Established in 1878 and reconstituted in 1981, the Veiled Prophet Fair, nominally the Fair Saint Louis starting in 1995,[1] is an annual festival held during the July 4 holiday in downtown St. Louis, Missouri at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. In 2014–2016, the events were in Forest Park on Art Hill instead, due to construction at the Arch.[2] The event drew approximately 250,000 people to Forest Park - more than any event in more than a century.[3][4] Some call it "America's largest birthday party". The event showcases a variety of attractions, educational activities, a barbecue competition, stages featuring popular entertainers, and an enormous fireworks display held nightly. Admission into the fair is free.

Background

Known as the "Veiled Prophet Fair" (or sometimes just "VP Fair") to the public, and officially prior to 1995, Fair Saint Louis was organized by the Veiled Prophet Organization, a secret society of prominent St. Louisans who also put on the "Veiled Prophet Ball", a debutante ball held annually in December, as well as the Veiled Prophet Parade, which usually kicks off Fair Saint Louis.

Fair St. Louis 2017

Fair St. Louis is expected to return to the newly renovated arch grounds complete with entertainment and fireworks on Saturday July 1st, Sunday July 2nd, and Tuesday July 4th. This will be the first time Fair St. Louis will return to the riverfront since the CityArchRiver project began in 2013.
