Fudbalski klub Ribnica (English: Football Club Ribnica Konik) is a football club from Konik, a suburb of Podgorica, Montenegro.
History
Period 1974-1992
FK Ribnica was founded in 1974, at Konik, the biggest suburb of Podgorica. There were several sports teams by the same name, but they no longer exist. The club is named after the Ribnica river, which flows through the Konik and Podgorica center.
In the 1970s, Ribnica played in Fourth League - Central region (lowest rank in SFR Yugoslavia). At the season 1983-84, Ribnica won the title of Central region champion, and for the first time in club history gained promotion to Montenegrin Republic League.
The biggest success at that time, FK Ribnica made on season 1990-91. Finished as a second-placed team in Montenegrin Republic League, Ribnica was promoted to Yugoslav Third Inter-Republic League - West 1991-92. The club played in the Third Yugoslav League for one season and after that was relegated to Montenegrin Republic League.
Period 1992-2006
In the FR Yugoslavia era, Ribnica played almost all seasons in Montenegrin Republic League (third rank of competition). During the few seasons, Ribnica was among top-clubs, but never again gained promotion to federal competitions (Second league).
FK Ribnica finished season 2003-04 at 14th position, which means relegation from Montenegrin Republic League after 20 consecutive seasons. Last years of Serbia and Montenegro era, FK Ribnica played in the lowest-rank competition (Central region) without significant successes.
During the 1990s and the first half of the 2000s, in FK Ribnica started their careers many famous players from Montenegro, as Vukašin Poleksić, Srđan Kljajević, Senad Rizvanaj, Ivan Čarapić, Saša Ivanović and others.
Period 2006-
After Montenegrin independence, FK Ribnica became a member of Montenegrin Third League, which is a lowest-tier competition. On season 2007-08, Ribnica won the title and in playoffs against FK Mornar and FK Polimlje gained promotion to Montenegrin Second League, which was the historical success for the club from Konik.
Ribnica played only one season in the Second League, finishing as a last-placed team in season 2008-09. After that, until today, Ribnica is a member of Third League.
On seasons 2006-07 and 2007–08, FK Ribnica was a winner of Montenegrin Regional Cup - Central region.
