Eytan Avriel
Eytan Avriel (born December 11, 1960) is a journalist and a founder of TheMarker, the Editor-in-Chief of TheMarker Magazine and a leading Israeli commentator.
Avriel writes and speaks extensively on Israel’s economy, business and society, including Crony capitalism and institutional preference toward media owners ([1][2][3][4]), the energy sector ([5][6][7]), the housing price bubble ([8]) macroeconomic policy ([9][10]), digital life, Israel's "Start-up Nation" and Cybercrime. ([11]). In his capacity of the Editor-in-Chief of TheMarker Magazine, Avriel oversees the creation of Israel’s two major economic lists: The 100 most influential Israelis [12] and The 500 richest Israelis.[13] Avriel is also quoted by non-Israeli outlets ([14]).
Career
After an army service in the Israeli Navy, and later as an instructor and operator of diving centers, Avriel turned to financial journalism, first with Haaretz and later at Reuters. Avriel founded the business desk at Reuters Israel and launched new products, including a Hebrew language business news services, money market exchanges and mobile financial data platforms. After a period as a manager of mutual funds, investment banker and publicist, Avriel founded TheMarker along with Guy Rolnik and Ido Pollak. In 2012, Avriel was nominated Editor-in-Chief of TheMarker's magazine.
Education and public service
Avriel has a BSc in Biology and Business Administration from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1988) and an MBA from the same institution (2006), specializing in Financial engineering. He is also an alumnus of the Singularity University at Silicon Valley. Avriel has founded an Israel Securities Authority (ISA) committee to establish an ethics code for Internet and New media organizations. The committee's recommendations were presented to the ISA's chairman in 2005. ([15])
