Eva Shockey (born January 5, 1988) is a Canadian hunter who was the first woman in 30 years to make the front cover of Field & Stream magazine. She is also the co-host for her father Jim Shockey's television show on Outdoor Channel called Jim Shockey's Hunting Adventures.[1]
Shockey is also a proud supporter of wildlife conservation efforts and believes that “hunters are the biggest conservationists on the planet.”[2] In 2015, she and her father, Jim Shockey, were chosen as Honorary Co-Chairs for National Hunting & Fishing Day, which took place on September 26, 2015.[3] Shockey is also dedicated to fitness and health in order to aid her hunting.[4] She has more than a million followers on social media.[5]
Life
Shockey was born on January 5, 1988 on Vancouver Island, Canada to hunter and outdoorsman Jim Shockey and Louise Johann.[6] She was about twenty years old when she started hunting.[7] Shockey went to Bond University in Australia and graduated with a degree in business marketing in two and a half years on the fast track program. She married professional hockey player, Tim Brent on June 20, 2015 on her family's land.[8]
Media
Eva Shockey is the co-host of Jim Shockey's Hunting Adventures on Outdoor Channel alongside her father Jim Shockey. She also occasionally serves as host for various TV specials and red carpet events for the network.
Eva Shockey appeared on the cover of Field & Stream magazine on the issue of May 2014 - making her the second woman ever to be photographed for the magazine's cover in its 119-year history. The first was Queen Elizabeth II. [9]
In November of 2014, droves of anti-hunters reacted to photos that Shockey posted on social media of a 510-pound black bear she harvested during a North Carolina hunt. One remarked that she should “kill that little worthless dog you have instead.” Shockey’s sharp riposte – “Apparently hunting a bear, eating/donating all of the meat, and putting money towards conservation is a bad thing, but killing my puppy is OK. If this logic isn’t totally insane, I don’t know what is.” – caught the attention of mainstream media. The backlash intensified in the days that followed, but so too did the rallying battle cries from fellow hunters. In turn, Shockey created special T-shirts that state: “I’ll never apologize for being a hunter!” [10] [11] [12] [13]
In February 2015, ABC News spotlighted Shockey and positioned her as "the new face of hunting" - a next-generation hotshot that's taking the traditionally-male dominated sport of hunting by storm. [14]
During the 2015 ACM Awards, RAM Trucks aired a :60 commercial called “Courage Is Already Inside.” [15] It shows women meeting challenges like bow hunting, mountain climbing, surfing big waves and performing on stage. Shockey, Miranda Lambert and others were featured in a spot seen by millions.[16] [17] [18]
USA Today Hunt + Fish interviewed Jim and Eva Shockey for the cover story of their Summer/Fall 2015 issue, which hit newsstands in August 2015. The father-daughter duo cover story highlights Eva’s journey to becoming the new face of the hunting industry; how hunting has always been central to Jim’s life; and the dynamic relationship between the two.[19] [20]
Shockey signed on as a Cabela's Brand Ambassador in 2015.[21] She has two Signature Series bows with Bowtech Archery – the BowTech Eva Shockey Signature Series Compound Bow with electric blue accents in a black ops finish launched in 2015 and the Mossy Oak Break-Up Country finish launched in 2016.[22] [23] [24] She also has a signature rifle, the Eva Shockey Golden Eagle (.177) from Crosman.[25] Under Armour, Crosman, Daniel Defense and MTN OPS are also among her sponsors and she is a part of the Under Armour Hunt Team.[26] [27] [28] [29]
