European Wax Center

European Wax Center is a major chain of hair removal salons in the United States, founded and based in Aventura, Florida in 2004 and run through franchising.[1] It is the world's largest wax center brand with nearly 650 centers[2] across the United States.[3]

The salons typically are 1,200 to 1,400 square feet (130 m2) and employ 10 to 15 people. The chain prefers to locate in shopping centers anchored by grocery stores or by a Target store, with a Starbucks or a Peet’s coffee shop within the center.[4]

The chain has over 500 locations in the United States.[5]

History

Siblings Joshua, David, and Jessica Coba founded European Wax Center as single salon in Aventura, Florida in 2004.[6] In 2008, the siblings started selling European Wax Center franchises.

Since the European Wax Center opened its first franchise in Florida in 2005, the company has opened more than 166 franchises,[7] with another 110 sold.

Franchises use a four-step waxing process.[8]

Recognition

Recently European Wax Center was named #1 of the Top 10 franchises and #82 on the list of fastest-growing companies by INC magazine in their annual INC 500 survey.[9] According to INC magazine, the franchise has experienced a 3-year growth of 2,924%.[10] In 24 months, European Wax Center grew from a local Florida-based business into a franchise giant with locations in 26 states.[11] In the Dallas market alone, expectations are to open 17 new locations,[12] by 2012. European Wax Center projects ending 2011 with a 362% revenue increase,[13] over 2010.
