Double Head Cabbage
Double Head Cabbage is a village in Belize. It located in Belize District some 45 km. from Belize City. The origin of the name refers to a 'double-headed' cabbage palm, one where the head splits into two. The tree is long gone, although the site is known.
Charlie Belgrove’s winery is an important business in Double Head Cabbage. There is no sign outside, and the building itself is an unprepossessing concrete block, so it is easy to miss. Inside, Charlie ferments no less than thirty-six different types of wine made from local fruits and barks. Some of the wines are up to fifteen years old, though Charlie doesn’t keep exact records.
