Donald A. Wilson Secondary School is a high school located in Whitby, Ontario, Canada. It opened in 2004, hosts students in grades 9 through 12 and offers a wide range of academic and extra-curricular activities. The school mascot is a gator and the school colours are orange, blue, and silver.
Facility
The school building consists of two main floors, with two gymnasiums, a cafeteria which is also used as an auditorium ('cafetorium'), and a resource centre which includes numerous computers and a wide range of books and magazines.
The school is divided into subject areas. The south wing on the second floor houses the English Department. Main Floor: North side - Art Department, East side - Tech Department, south wing - Math Department.
There are two gymnasiums: a full-sized and a half-sized. There are two fields: one for games and another for practices. There is also a trail run.
The school expanded to portables in 2009.
Athletics
Donald A. Wilson Secondary School offers a fairly wide range of sports teams including football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, dance, badminton, ski, track & field, and cross country.
Music
Donald A. Wilson houses a moderately sized music program. The rankings at competition for both senior concert and jazz bands are gold.
Reach for the Top
The Reach for the Top academic trivia team were the 2010 Durham region champions, and were participants in the Ontario 2010 provincial finals.
Relay for Life
Donald A. Wilson organizes the only Relay For Life in Whitby. It has been a major participant since the opening of the school, and has raised about $500 000 to date. The school in recent years has allowed local Henry Street High School to also be part of the fundraiser.
