Doki is a Canadian animated television series produced by Portfolio Entertainment for Discovery Kids in Latin America premiering on April 15, 2013.

Premise

Doki is about the title character and his five friends, who are members of the Worldwide Expedition Club, an learning travel group.[1]

Characters

Doki has a vast range of characters, some of which are members of the Worldwide Expedition Club, with the title character being a curious dog. His other friends include Gabi the goat (Sarah Sheppard), Fico the otter (Lucas Kalechstein), Anabella the flamingo (Katie Grant), Oto the anteater (Caden Hughes), and Mundi the ladybug (Tara Emo).

Episodes

In total, 26 30-minute or 52 11-minute episodes have been produced and broadcast for its first two seasons.[2] The series was renewed for two more seasons.[3]

A 2009 special 30 minutes in length was produced by Nelvana called The Adventures of Doki.[4] Two additional specials were planned to be produced with the third and fourth seasons.[3]

History

Doki was originally Discovery Kids Latin America's animated mascot.[3] The Adventures of Doki was produced by Nelvana and was broadcast on the channel as a part of the 8 PM Doki Gift block, a Christmas premiere block, on December 23, 2009.[4]

With the channel moving into original programming, Doki was selected to lead the way in 2012.[3] JBMW Media developed the show with Portfolio Entertainment tapped to produce and distribute.[5]

The series debuted on Discovery Kids in Latin America on April 15, 2013.[6] followed by a premiered on Discovery Familia on November 11, 2013.

In January 2014, a few broadcast deal were reached by distributor Portfolio. Ion Television pick up the show for Qubo in the US market starting in 2014, while KiKa picked up the show for Germany. Broadcast and DVD rights in Taiwan were taken by Horng En Culture to place the series on Hakka TV. Singapore's MediaCorp would show the series on the Okto channel and its Toggle VOD service.[2]

The English version later premiered on Qubo in the United States on September 1, 2014,[7] and ION Television's Qubo Kids Corner block[8] on January 4, 2015 with two back to back episodes regularly untill September 21, 2016.[9]

In September 2015, TVOKids and Knowledge Network came on board as Canadian broadcasters, while in Norway NRK pick it up.[5] Three Discovery Family in the Middle East, Africa and Greece in May 2016 placed an order for Season Two and Three DOKI specials in February 2016.[10]

Discovery Kids ordered another two seasons, three and four, consisting of 24 11-minute episodes and 1 half hour specials each, from Portfolio Entertainment and its newly opened Toronto studio, Portfolio Animation. Episodes were delivery starting in September.[3]

Broadcasters

Doki Adventure's primary channel is Discovery Kids (Latin America), while three Discovery Family (Middle East, Africa and Greece) also carry the show. Qubo and its block on Ion, Qubo Kids Corner, carry the show in the US. In Europe, Germany broadcaster KiKA carries the show while Norway its is on NRK.[2] In Canada, the show airs on TVOKids and Knowledge Network.[5] In Asia, Hakka TV in Taiwan and Okto in Singapore carries Doki.[2] In Australia, the show aired on Discovery Kids.
