Diocese of Sydney, Australia and New Zealand

Diocese of Sydney, Australia and New Zealand (Russian: Сиднейская и Австралийско-Новозеландская епархия, also Australian and New Zealand Diocese) is a diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia on Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia; headquartered in Sydney. Korean Orthodox mission and Orthodox mission in Pakistan are also administratively subordinated to Australian and New Zealand Diocese.

History

First Russian orthodox parish in Australia was St. Nicholas Church in founded in 1926 in Brisbane.

Australian Diocese of the ROCOR was founded in 1946 with episcopal see Nicholas Church in Brisban.

In 1950 episcopal see was moved to Sydney to the Peter and Paul Cathedral.

In 1994 the Korean Orthodox mission was subordinated to Australian and New Zealand Diocese by the decree of the Synod of Bishops.

In February 2005, the diocese included parishes of Indonesia that were previously a part of the Hong Kong Metropolis of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.

In the spring of 2012 in Pakistan was established Pakistani mission.
