Derrick Gosselin

Derrick Philippe Boduin Gosselin (born 12 September 1956) is a Belgian engineer and economist. President of the Belgian Nuclear Research Center SCK-CEN and a fellow of the Royal Academy of Belgium (KVAB).

Government career

He is President of SCK-CEN and on the Board of Governors of the Royal Higher Institute for Defence [1] and the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics.

He is Hon. Head of Cabinet (2009-2012) of the Minister-President of the Flemish Government. Author and architect of the New Industrial Policy for Flanders [2] including the setup of an Industrial Transformations Fund (TINA). He was also government commissioner of the Agency for Innovation by Science and Technology of Flanders (IWT). Gosselin started his career at the department for Scientific Policy Planning within the Office of the Belgian Prime Minister.

Academic career

Professor extraordinarius at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Ghent University. He is as well an associate fellow at the University of Oxford: Green Templeton College and the Oxford Martin School.

He is an elected Fellow of both the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts.[3] and the Academia Europaea. He is an Hon. Fellow of Hogenheuvel College (2007-2009) at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.

He is a member of the Global Agenda Councils of the World Economic Forum and was board member of the European Council of Applied Sciences and Engineering (Euro-CASE) (2008-2011) and President-Founder of Flanders Business School (1999-2003). His research focuses on decision making in highly complex and uncertain situations (Wicked problems, Futures Studies, Complexity theory) [4]

He is the Senior Member of the Oxford University Belgo-Luxembourgish Society OUBLS.[5]

Business career

Jointed with Julien De Wilde and John J. Goossens the Alcatel-Lucent group in 1990 as a member of the executive committee. From 2002 till 2009: Engie group as executive vice president of the international energy branch.

Education

Degrees in engineering, economics and business administration at Ghent University. Postgraduate education at Vlerick Business School, University of Oxford (Green Templeton College), London Business School, Harvard Business School and INSEAD.
