David Schulhof
David Schulhof (born 1971) is an American music and entertainment executive. Schulhof serves as President and Partner of IM Global Music, a division of IM Global, one of the leading film financing, sales and distribution companies in the world. Previously, Schulhof served as Managing Director, Media at G2 Investment Group, a spin out of Guggenheim Partners, and previously served as Co-Founder and CEO of Evergreen Copyrights, a music-publishing and music rights portfolio company of BMG Rights Management. Beginning in 2005, Schulhof engineered a successful consolidation of 26 music-publishing companies building Evergreen into one of the largest independent music companies worldwide and sold to KKR/BMG Rights Management in 2010. Schulhof previously held Senior Executive Positions at Miramax and Dimension Films, overseeing motion picture music, publishing and soundtracks, and started his career as an entertainment attorney in the New York law offices of Pryor Cashman Sherman and Flynn, representing music, film and TV clients. Schulhof received his B.A. from Georgetown University, and his J.D. from the NYU School of Law. He is a member of the New York State Bar.
Career
Evergreen Copyrights
Evergreen Copyrights (a/k/a Evergreen Copyright Acquisitions, LLC) is a full-service global independent music publishing company founded in January 2006 by David Schulhof, Richard Perna, and Joel Katz [1] with financial backing from Trilantic Capital Partners (formerly Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking Group). Evergreen Copyrights controls over 65,000 titles including the works of Roy Orbison, Michael Jackson the Ramones, Warren Zevon, Grand Funk Railroad, Nick Drake, MC Hammer, Teddy Riley, Third Eye Blind, Todd Rundgren, Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 2 Live Crew, Bill Monroe, J.J. Cale, and many others. The company provides its clients with a variety of services including Creative Marketing/ A&R, Songwriter Development, Copyright Administration, and Licensing. Evergreen has offices in New York, Nashville, Los Angeles, and London. Evergreen is one of the largest independent music publishing companies in the world.[2] In September 2010, it was announced that Evergreen Copyrights would be sold to BMG Rights Management, a music publishing venture of Bertelsmann AG and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.[3]
Miramax Films
Prior to founding Evergreen Copyrights, Schulhof held the position of Vice President of Motion Picture Music for Miramax Films and Dimension Films, overseeing motion picture music, soundtracks and music publishing for the Studio. At Miramax, Schulhof participated as an executive producer, A&R producer, music supervisor and score supervisor on over 100 soundtracks distributed by such labels as Columbia Records, Sony Classical Records, EMI, Virgin Records, Jive Records, RCA, Arista Records, Roc-a-fella, Island Def Jam Music Group, Koch Records, Hollywood, Milan, Universal Records, Verve Records, Interscope, Wind-up Records, TVT Records and Tommy Boy Entertainment. His score supervised soundtracks for Life Is Beautiful and Shakespeare in Love won Oscar awards. He put together the music from such hit films as Scary Movie, Scream 2, Scream 3, Calle 54, She's All That, Bridget Jones' Diary, Serendipity, In Too Deep, Chocolat, The Cider House Rules, Dracula 2000, Gangs of New York, Little Voice, Music of The Heart, On the Line, O, Iris, Yards, Amélie, Kate & Leopold, Shipping News, Halloween 7, Spy Kids, and The Talented Mr. Ripley.
In addition to soundtracks, Schulhof has provided film music supervision for Miramax's Frida (Oscar-winner for music, Bounce, Get Over It and Undisputed, as well as Dimension Films' Imposter, Paid in Full, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Highlander:Endgame. As film music supervisor, Schulhof worked closely with such directors as Julie Taymor (Frida), Charles Stone (Paid in Full), Walter Hill (Undisputed), and Kevin Smith (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back). During his tenure at Miramax Films, Schulhof helped the company achieve nine Oscar nominations for film music and soundtracks and thirteen Grammy nominations for soundtracks. He built a valuable music-publishing library of award-winning and award-nominated scores and songs that generated millions of dollars in profits for Miramax Films. He oversaw Miramax's administration and joint venture agreement with Sony Music Publishing, Miramax's exclusive music publishing administrator, and was responsible for Miramax Special Products, a profitable division he created to promote and license the company music catalogue to third-party licensees. He is also credited with helping launch Miramax Records.
Television Production
Schulhof has credits as an independent reality television producer. He developed several programs for Warner Bros., NBC and Fox Television. His television production company, Schulhof-Zuriff Productions, produced and sold to NBC an untitled Jason Davis project centering on Jason Davis, billionaire grandson of oil tycoon Marvin Davis, while he chased his entrepreneurial dream of opening hotels in Las Vegas.[4] Schulhof's television production company was represented by the William Morris Agency during this time.
